This month’s AISTS Sports Medicine Podcast will be talking about nutrition, specifically whether it is possible for vegans to achieve the same performance level in sport as omnivores. With veganism becoming a growing trend worldwide it is interesting to see what science says.

There are many questions on whether a vegan diet can be healthy and help performance for high-level athletes. Yiting Cao and Nikolaus Schönfeldt, from the class of 2018, discuss the considerations athletes need to take when switching from an omnivore to a vegan diet. What happens with protein? Is animal and plant-based protein the same? What about supplements? Are there any mandatory ones to consume on a vegan diet? This podcast answers these questions and also provides examples of high-profile athletes who are thriving on this diet.
