MAS CLASS VISIT THE UEFA HEADQUARTERS
The class of 2018 spent the day at the Union of European Football Associations headquarters in Nyon, hearing from various UEFA representatives about the structure and runnings of the association.
With a full schedule for the day, the morning started with a presentation from the Education and University Relations department giving the class a good understanding of the UEFA structure and activities. UEFA is is an association of associations, a representative democracy, and is the umbrella organisation for 55 national football associations across Europe.
AISTS Alumni, Marion Gebistorf, UEFA Commerical Operations Manager presented to the MAS class on the topic of UEFA club competitions and the participants were given their UEFA Champions League Simulation. Participants worked in groups and were given a hands-on immersive experience on what it is like to be behind the scenes for the operations of a Champions League match.
Groups had to respond to various crisis management scenarios such as the ball boy blocking the main camera which is recording, inclement weather conditions or electrical problems, and how to deal with all stakeholders within the scenario. A thorough debrief was led by Marion where all groups could clarify any questions or queries they had about the experience.
MAS participant Ayesha Talpade said,
“The simulation activity was interesting to help us understand the various roles of the venue operations, broadcasting and media teams etc. have and how they interrelate with each other.”
The last session of the day was a presentation on Financial Fair Play and club licensing.
