AISTS SEMINAR IN JAPAN ON THE FINANCE & ECONOMICS OF SPORT
Today marked the final day of the AISTS Finance & Economics of Sport Seminar that has been going on this week in Tokyo, Japan at the Tsukuba International Academy for Sport Studies (TIAS).
The week has entailed various lectures from both academics and experts from the field including Professor Daniel Oyon from the University of Lausanne (UNIL), Ivan Codina Managing Director of La Liga Asia, Siri Wallenius Project Officer from European Club Association (ECA) and Julien Buhajezuk from the International Federation of University Sport (FISU).

This 1-week seminar is part of the TIAS Master’s Programme in Sport and Olympic Studies, an 18-month programme with 23 students with 17 different nationalities in December 2018. The AISTS Seminar on Finance & Economics is part of the TIAS Sport Management curriculum. The seminar is structured with Professor Oyon delivering the main components regarding the finance and economic ‘nuts and bolts’, and complemented by guest speakers presenting their sporting organisation which included financial elements.
July 2014 saw the official launch of a partnership between the AISTS and the University of Tsukuba, one of Japan’s oldest and most prestigious universities, in delivering education to Tokyo 2020 as part of their new ‘Sport for Tomorrow’ programme. The ‘Sport for Tomorrow’ programme is designed to promote the Olympic Movement around the globe including the creation of the Tsukuba International Academy for Sport Studies (TIAS). TIAS has been established as an international centre to accept and develop professionals, who will become tomorrow’s leaders in international sports organisations.
Today concluded the seminar with students presenting their evaluations on the financial health of various football clubs. The AISTS will return to Tokyo and the University of Tsukuba in the summer of 2019. Tsukuba International Academy for Sport Studies (TIAS) is the international sports academy to promote global human resources who can lead the international sporting world for the 21st century. As part of the project of “Sport for Tomorrow” pledged by the Japanese Government for Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games on 2020, TIAS is established at the University of Tsukuba. To be based in the University whose past principal is Prof. Jigoro Kano, the 1st IOC member from Asia, TIAS will organize the master programme and open modules for international and domestic students. With internationally renowned professors, TIAS will contribute to international development as the legacy of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.
