Overview

Managing and organising a sport event requires a clear vision, the ability to design such vision and subsequently, a specific and coherent set of objectives and a strategy.

From designing and delivering an event— considering the context, culture and long-term development plans of the host territories — to its positioning, a sound understanding of key phases to design and deliver a sport even are critical.

Since 2001, the AISTS has been organising SEMOS™ – Sport Event Management and Organisation Seminar. The AISTS SEMOS™ short programme offers an overview of the key tasks that sports managers need to successfully plan, communicate and operate when organising sport events, providing a 360° view and behind the scenes look at the mechanics of sport events.

Bringing together leaders of International Sport Federations and other experts of the AISTS network, including the International Olympic Committee and sport event organisers, AISTS SEMOS™ is both pertinent and practical and recognises the increased expectations of spectators, media and sponsors at major events.

The Sport Event Management and Organisation Seminar (SEMOS) course provides a holistic view of the organisation and management of sport events. It offers an overview of the key tasks that sports managers need to successfully plan, communicate, and operate, when delivering sport events. The selected topics are articulated into 4 tracks and providing a blend of theoretical and practical approach.

The four tracks are:

  1. Vision, Strategy and Key Planning
  2. Business, Finance and Sales
  3. Experience, Engagement & Communication
  4. Operations Management

Throughout the week, participants will have the opportunity to apply the learnings of each track, to an actual event through group work. The final day of the seminar will consist of finalising the work and presenting their conclusions to the organiser of the event.

Overview

Historically innovation was considered an episodic event. In today’s fast-paced global context organisations need to drive this practice constantly. This imperative applies equally to all sport organisations — including tradition-driven governing bodies — if they want to maintain their relevance in today’s society.

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Sport programme was elaborated to equip you with the tools and mindset needed to manage innovation efficiently.

The first part of the course will focus on conveying the key concepts behind innovation and design (of products, of offerings and of business models). Participants will get their hands on tools and canvases aimed at making you proficient at assessing your environment, iterating on designs and ideas, and evaluating business viability and sustainability.

The second part of the programme aims to ground these concepts in practice. Entrepreneurs will equip you with knowledge and skills to tell your story, approach the first phases of development or go for funding.

Overview

In a growingly complex global context, sustainability is one of the most defining challenges of our time across all industries. Sport is no exception to this trend. Furthermore, it presents extensive opportunities to promote ESG issue across society.

The ability of a sport federation or organisation to balance the economic, environmental and social impact of their activities, including events they host, organise or govern is critical to the future development of their sport, meaning that the managerial complexity associated with integrating sustainability aspects in decision-making is crucial. Furthermore, the development, implementation and monitoring of sustainable management practices have the potential of striking the perfect balance between adding value and reducing risk.

The Managing Sport Sustainability short programme is designed to provide a comprehensive and critical review of organisations’ interpretation of social responsibility and sustainability issues and the need to manage social and environmental performances. Furthermore, participants will broaden their understanding of how to foster the implementation of a sustainability strategy within their organisation. The programme also provides valuable insights about sustainable business to policy makers seeking a comprehensive knowledge of how sport organisations may become more sustainable.

The experiential style of the programme ensures that participants benefit from the most impactful learning with a truly international and diverse group. The classroom experience is enriched further thanks to the active participation of the AISTS MAS participants in Sport Management and Technology.
