AISTS SPORT MEDICINE PODCAST #42

SHOULD SHARAPOVA HAVE KNOWN BETTER?

This month’s AISTS Sport Medicine podcast, presented by Ayesha Talpade and Pablo Rosetti discusses the legal, medical and ethical issues surrounding the Sharapova doping case.

On March 06, 2016 Sharapova was informed by the International Tennis Federation that the ‘A’ sample collected from her at the Australian Open in January had tested positive for the presence of the banned substance Meldonium. Sharapova admitted to the use of this substance and waived her right to test the ‘B’ sample. Accordingly, the IFT banned Sharapova for 2 years. On appeal, the Court of Arbitration for Sport reduced her suspension by 9 months to make it a 15-month ban.  Find out more on what happened with this and get all the facts with this months AISTS Sport Medicine podcast.
