IOC PRESIDENT TO SPEAK AT THE 2017 AISTS GRADUATION CEREMONY
The AISTS has confirmed that International Olympic Committee (IOC), President Thomas Bach, will deliver the graduation address at the 15th annual AISTS Master of Advanced Studies in Sport Administration and Technology graduation ceremony, along with mountaineering expert, Jamie Andrew, OBE.
With the success of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro behind us and the sports world now looking towards Pyeongchang and Tokyo, the graduation address by President Bach to the graduating class of future leaders in sport is being highly anticipated. President Bach met the class earlier this year at the United Nations High Commission for Refugees headquarters in Geneva and this will mark President Bach’s forth appearance at our prestigious ceremony.
“In our fast evolving society, the world of sport today looks for talented and passionate people who can bring fresh ideas and energy to the sporting movement,” said IOC President Thomas Bach. “The AISTS MAS in Sport Administration offers a really solid base to work within the sports industry to develop the sport leaders of tomorrow.”
The evening will also include mountaineering expert, motivational speaker and quadruple amputee, Mr Jamie Andrew, OBE. Mr Andrew’s greatest passion in life has always been mountaineering but at the height of his climbing career, tragedy struck unexpectedly when his climbing partner and himself were caught for five days in a terrible storm after completing the North Face of Les Droites in the French Alps. The ensuing helicopter rescue was one of the most spectacular in the history of the Alps and made news headlines around the world. Unfortunately, the rescue came too late for his climbing partner, but Mr Andrew survived despite severe frostbite and hypothermia. Later in hospital, both his hands and feet had to be amputated. Mr Andrew has been a professional motivational speaker for over ten years, as well as continuing his passion for mountaineering, and will no doubt provide inspiration to our graduating class as this years keynote speaker.
Among a class representing 24 different nationalities, this year’s graduates include former silver medalist at the world karate championships, Syliva-Line Lamaro, National Head Coach of the USA Taekwondo team, Patrice Remark, and former national Swiss ice hockey player, Lukas Gerber. The ceremony will take place on the evening of the 29th of November at the Olympic Museum.
Previous speakers at the AISTS graduation ceremony include USA Olympian Mara Abbott, Former CEO of Triathlon Australia, Anne Gripper, who pioneered the biological passport for cycling as well as South African Olympic and Google UX Lead for Social Good, Peter Jin Hong.
