HUMANS OF AISTS
MAS2021 | Ep01 | DOMINIC BROOK

Life at AISTS has gotten off to an interesting start. It was great to be able to attend class in person for the first couple of weeks given the current pandemic, but unsurprisingly the class has been affected and we’ve moved to online learning. This has made life a little more complicated and certainly an experience I did not anticipate when applying. Luckily, I’ve been able to keep fit at the gym, but due to recent injuries I haven’t been able to join a rugby or touch rugby club yet – that’s definitely on my to do list.

I studied Biological Sciences at uni all the while playing as much sport as I could. I discovered Rugby League at university and made it into the South England training squad but unfortunately had to withdraw due to a shoulder injury. My main sport however is Touch rugby, for which I’ve been in and out of the England touch rugby training squad with the goal of earning my first cap.

Covid has influenced everyone in very different ways, and for me, it meant being made redundant from my job in London. I decided that I would not let it be a negative influence on me so I took the time to train and get in shape which has earned me a spot on the England Men’s Open Training Squad for the upcoming European Championships. Covid has also helped me take a step back and re-evaluate my interests and career path, which ultimately helped me discover this course and take the decision to apply. So far, my experience has been great and I’m excited to learn more about the world of sport and start my career in the sporting world.
