IMD Leadership Course Enriches the AISTS Master’s Programme in Sport Management and Technology
“Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does.” Nelson Mandela. Sport can contribute to a better society in many ways, for example, by bridging different cultures, by bringing together international audience to events, or by contributing to a healthier world thanks to the development of sport accessibility everywhere.
Sport managers share this responsibility. Their leadership strength is critical not only to their successful career development, but also as the driving force at all levels within their organization, including in roles such as project managers, department heads, CEOs, or innovation entrepreneurs.
Starting this September, the AISTS Master programme will include a course intitled “Developing Leaders in Sport”. This course will be hosted at IMD with IMD Professor Jennifer Jordan, September 15 and 16.
The course will cover topics such as managing power and influence, as well as the underlying theme of self-awareness and self-reflection with hands-on and experiential sessions. The participants will learn how having positive leadership in their work environment can effectively contribute to the growth of sport while at the same time, develop their self-leadership.
This new offering at IMD is part of the “Leadership and Career Development in Sport” Module of the AISTS Master, providing the participants with the right skills to accelerate their career.
The AISTS programme includes a total of 8 Modules, with a focus on Management and Technology. The programme also includes a multidisciplinary approach to sport with Law, Medicine, and Sociology, all taught by the best professors of AISTS academic partners: EPFL, University of Lausanne, University of Geneva, IMD, and EHL Swiss Hospitality Management School.
During the 8 months of in-class lectures, the participants are immersed in the real world of sport through client team projects, work experience inside sport organisations, and sport fields visits. In addition, AISTS, located in the Olympic Capital of Lausanne, is one of the most scenic campuses in the world, being right on the shore of Lake Leman facing the Swiss and French Alps.

More about the AISTS Master Programme
In a growingly complex setting, Sustainability and Digitalisation represent some of the most defining global challenges of our time in the sports industry.
Building on years of experience in educating and empowering the leading actors and managers of the sporting world, the AISTS has carried out an in-depth redesign of its MAS in Sports Management and Technology. The reformed programme was conceived to train and prepare managers who are at the forefront of cross-cutting issues connected to Digitalisation and Sustainability.
The MAS’s unique location in the Olympic capital of Lausanne and connection with the Olympic Movement enhance experiential learning in real sport governance, while the curriculum and structure were designed to empower students to gain real-world, practical insights and know-how, notably through Client Team projects and industry sourced case studies.
Participants will learn to lead and grow their career through proven organisational behaviour tactics and strategies and individual coaching.
The AISTS’s partnerships with sports companies, international sports federations, governmental organisations, and sports event organisers, together with the “Leadership and Career Development in Sports” module — which ties in all the programme’s components — equip students to accelerate or transform their career in the exciting and ever-evolving sports industry.
