The AISTS Sport Event Management and Organisation Seminar takes place next week at the University of Lasuanne.  We recently caught up with Ms Gemma Roura, Head of Events, with Formula E Operations Ltd, who will be sharing her expertise and knowledge with us.   

Gemma joined Formula E in 2013 in an effort to create the first ever Electric Single-Seater Championship. The ABB FIA Formula E Championship is the electric street racing series and the world’s first fully-electric international single-seater category in motorsport. The fifth edition of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship will have 11 teams and 22 drivers tackle a variety of challenging circuits in 12 cities across five continents, in a bid to be crowned champion.

Gemma came from a strong motorsport background with over 19 years of experience in sports management, including serving as the Project Manager of the BMW Motorrad Championship support race during the World Motorcycle Championship – MotoGP, as Event Director for the European high-level motorsport event World Series by Renault and as Driver’s Manager for the prestigious Race of Champions. She actually started working in motorsports in 1998 during the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Barcelona, Spain for an Austrian company who specialised in marketing sports.

Gemma’s current role is Head of Events with Formula E where she has the overall responsibility of the Event Management and Branding Implementation Teams, organising events located in major city centre’s such as New York City, Beijing, Hong Kong, Paris, Miami, Moscow, to name a few. With such a strong background in events Gemma enjoys many things within her role, but the best for her is the moment when the gates open and the event begins. 

“The best feeling for me is when we open the gates on event day, and I see the faces of the visitors, especially the children.”

Gemma also believes that communication, being a team player and being flexible are the key skills all event managers must have to be successful.  She also wants to share her knowledge and expertise, and this is why she is speaking at our upcoming Sport Event Management and Organisation Seminar. 

Since 2001, the AISTS has been organising the Sport Event Management and Organisation Seminar (SEMOS™).  This sports management 5 day seminar offers an overview of the key tasks that sports managers need to successfully plan, communicate and operate sport events, providing a 360° view and behind the scenes look at the mechanics of sport events.

Expert speakers like Gemma Roura as well as plus 16 others’, both from federations and events corporations, will be lecturing throughout the week, as well as being involved in panel discussions and group activities. 

Geema said about the upcoming seminar,
