AN INTRODUCTION TO ANTI-DOPING FOR SPORT

The Introduction to Anti-doping in Sport Module is a three-day course aimed at those new to the world of anti-doping who wish to understand the broader context of doping and anti-doping. Participants will walk away with a thorough knowledge and understanding of what doping means, what their responsibilities are, and what resources are available to support them in their roles. The Introduction to Anti-Doping for Sport is part of AISTS’ Sports Management Masters Program, and is a module open to the public.

OBJECTIVES

  • To understand the medical and legal risks of prohibited substances/methods
  • To understand the roles and responsibilities of different governing bodies
  • To understand the existing anti-doping resources (education, testing, fight against trafficking) available
  • To become familiar with the organisation of the anti-doping unit in a sporting body
  • To understand the anti-doping requirements when organising a competition
  • To gain an understanding of how to optimise the doping control process

  • The how, what, who of Anti-Doping in different organisations
  • The Doping Control process from the risk assessment to the
  • management of anti-doping rule violations
  • Health and medical issues
  • Athlete Biological Passport and prevalence of doping
  • The Role of a WADA Accredited Laboratories
  • Scientific Management of cases in International Federations
  • and the Olympic Games
  • Recent trends in anti-doping (including forensic investigations)

The centre for Research and Expertise in anti-Doping sciences (REDs) was created as an international reference centre to perform independent research and provide expertise with a multidisciplinary and innovative
approach in anti-doping sciences.  Additionally, the ambition is to provide
initial training in the field of doping and the fight against doping at Masters
and PhD levels, but also specialize in continuing education for coaches, managers, supervisor, and doctors assisting in advancement of anti-doping.
