Tsukuba International Academy of Sport Studies

July 2014 saw the official launch of a partnership between the AISTS and the University of Tsukuba, one of Japan’s oldest and most prestigious universities, in delivering education to Tokyo 2020 as part of their new ‘Sport for Tomorrow’ programme. The ‘Sport for Tomorrow’ program is designed to promote the Olympic Movement around the globe including the creation of the Tsukuba International Academy for Sport Studies (TIAS).

To support the establishment of TIAS, the AISTS delivers tailored eduction with 2 one-week long seminars in Tokyo each year. The seminars provided TIAS students with an overview of key components of sport event management, providing them with a 360° view and behind the scenes insights from a variety of experts.

The AISTS SEMOS™ Open Module (Sports Event Management and Organisation Seminar) was first launched in 2001 and has been held annually in Lausanne, Switzerland ever since.  It was held for the first time with TIAS in Japan during October 2014 and since then has been delivered to 120 international participants.  The AISTS will continue with this module along with the ‘Business of Sport’ module until 2020.
