AISTS SPORT MEDICINE PODCAST

A CLOSER LOOK AT THERAPEUTIC USE EXEMPTIONS (TUES)

Discover the world of sport management through the AISTS Sport Medicine podcast, featuring interviews with leading experts, professionals and academics.

Sport medicine is one of the scientific disciplines of the AISTS Master of Advanced Studies programme and is led by Dr Boris Gojanovic. It brings participants up to speed with the current challenges in maintaining a healthy and performing human athletic body.  In this month’s AISTS Sport Medicine podcast Joshua Parkyn and Carla Wuhrer discuss how athletes use banned substances legally through therapeutic use exemptions, better known as TUEs, and why these can be so controversial.  This topic became highly relevant in 2016 after a hack released the details of high- profile athlete’s that used TUEs. Among them was Bradley Wiggins who received TUEs before big races, which sparked controversy in the eyes of the media and the public.
