To prepare the next generation of world class sports leaders through 360 degrees understanding of athletes, high performance & the management of sport.
India is one of the youngest populations on the globe with the world’s largest student population. It is also a nation which has only sporadically pursued sporting excellence or viewed sport as a viable career. However, that is now changing with growing awareness around fitness, the power of sport to bind & lift the entire nation and a Government getting increasingly focused on transforming India into a sporting superpower.
However, to put the entire onus on the Government is not feasible or right. The private sector and other stakeholders too need to be motivated to join the movement to build physical literacy and develop a stronger sports culture in the country. In fact, for India, a sports education should also become part of the overall public healthcare policy given that it is the global capital for most sedentary life-style related ailments. The country needs to ‘move’ not just in the quest for sporting glory, but also to ensure public health & wellness.
Finally, parents too need to be schooled to encourage children to take to sport and even pursue it as a credible career option. However, one needs to be cognizant that with the increasing influence of science & technology on sport, a career in that field can not be predicated on passion alone. That passion needs intellectualisation and tangible skills acquired to deal with growing complexity in order to build successful & gratifying careers.
The eventual success of this ambitious transformative drive shall be determined by the leaders of Indian sport who should be suitably professionally qualified to build mindsets, infrastructure & policies all of which are committed to a culture of unwavering & sustained sporting excellence.
That remains the primary inspiration behind setting up AISTS India : to build an ever growing & dynamic cadre of sports leaders & entrepreneurs who not only ensure podium finishes, but also instill in the people of this country a true & abiding love for sport.
