AISTS CONTINUES TO HELP ASPIRING SPORTS MANAGERS WITH TWO SCHOLARSHIPS BEING AWARDED FOR 2019
AISTS has awarded its annual Future Female Leader in Sport scholarship to Pakistan/Australian, Rida Ahmed and the Athlete scholarship to Roberto Lustosa Pitta from Brazil.
The AISTS Future Female Leader in Sport scholarship recipient, Rida Ahmed, was born in Karachi, Pakistan and has lived in various cities across Pakistan and Australia. While predominantly growing up in Pakistan, her formative years were spent in Perth, Australia, where she completed her high school education as well as a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Management. She has been working with the Pakistan Hockey team since 2012 as an International Team Liason and has been working in events and marketing.
In a continued effort to provide more opportunities for aspiring female sports administrators, the AISTS offers one female candidate each academic year, wishing to pursue a career in sports management, with their tuition fees partly covered. Previous recipients include Carla Wuhrer, Germany (2017) and Ana Vivar, Equador (2018).
The AISTS Athlete Scholarship is awarded each year to a current or former athlete who has competed at the international level and provides financial assistance to help enable athletes to smoothly career transition into the world of sports management. Roberto Lustosa Pitta joins a growing list of international athletes who have activated their post-athlete career through the AISTS programme such as Nigerian Olympic gold medallist, Enee Udo-Obong, German Olympic windsurfer, Toni Wilhelm and two-time US open water champion, Christine Jennings.
Roberto, who has a degree in Marketing, was a professional beach volleyball player for ten years playing internationally and was 2 times South American Champion, Rookie of the Year on the Brazilian Beach Volleyball Tour, a Continental Cup Champion and got the bronze medal at the World Military Games. He also played in numerous National and World Tours as well. Once Roberto decided to retire from playing his main objective was to develop sports in Brazil. He had the opportunity to work at the FIFA 2014 World Cup and at the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, both in Rio de Janeiro, his hometown.
Since 2003, the AISTS has graduated over 500 sports managers, representing over 100 countries from all continents. The AISTS Master of Advanced Studies in Sport Administration and Technology degree is co-signed by the EPFL, the University of Lausanne and the University of Geneva.
Both Rida and Roberto will commence the 17th edition of the AISTS Master of Advanced Studies in Sport Administration and Technology programme shortly, end of September, at the Synathlon, the new headquarters of the AISTS, located on the University of Lausanne campus in Switzerland.
